TEE PIECE/STUFFING BOX
The Tee piece is designed to sit underneath the slips table and to seal off and redirect any cuttings blowing in the outside circulation.
Four circular seals, seal around the outside of the drill rods and is designed to redirect any and all cuttings that are travelling from the bottom of the drill rod, up the outside the drill rods. Cuttings in the outside circulation are travelling very fast by the time they reach the surface.
Without a tee piece, these cuttings would be blasted up out of the hole and could cause safety issues, and potential damage. The tee piece is designed to redirect cuttings via a t-shaped pipe outlet (that can be directed and locked via a simple mechanism, in any direction) away from the rig. This tee piece hinges beneath the slips table and can be easily removed via two long pins.
As this tee piece table can be hinged/swinged away easily, this allows the driller access to collar the hole, as well as gain access to the internal seals of the tee piece for easy seal changing. Having this tee piece fixed to the table, virtually eliminates manual handling involved with installing and removing older style traditional tee pieces. Tee piece is fitted with heavy duty seals. Changing the seals is quick and uses a simple bayonet style lock – essentially tool less – except a simple supplied bayonet wrench.
